Working Group on Accessible and Affordable Hearing Health Care for Adults

Event Date: June 20, 2024 - June 21, 2024
Time: Check event schedule
Location: National Institutes of Health offices, North Bethesda, MD

In 2009, the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD) hosted a working group to help establish a research agenda focused on adult hearing health care access and affordability. This highly successful endeavor led to an NIDCD accessible and affordable hearing health care initiative that continues to be an institute priority. Substantial progress has been made, including the establishment of a new U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) category of over-the-counter (OTC) hearing aids, which has been a paradigm shift in the landscape of adult hearing health care.

In partnership with the National Institutes of Health’s National Institute on Aging and the FDA, NIDCD plans to revisit topics related to hearing health care access and affordability 15 years later. The goal of this working group is to hear from subject matter experts and partners about hearing health care needs that remain, and about new work that should be conducted both in the context of OTC hearing aid availability and, more broadly, in the changing landscape of health care.

This event will be held in person at NIH offices in North Bethesda, Maryland. The discussion will be among invited panelists, but space is available for public attendees to observe. If time permits, there may be an opportunity for audience comments or questions, but this is not guaranteed.

Please contact Kelly King, Au.D., Ph.D., if you are interested in attending.
